Chinese-Indonesian | English

My Mum is Chinese-Indonesian and Dad is English. I don't really mind when people ask where I’m from, I take it as a sign of curiosity. I usually say I'm English, but mixed-race and my background is Chinese-Indonesian - English.

We see our Chinese-Indonesian family at least once a year. We eat some Indonesian food and I like wearing traditional Chinese clothes. I also like the Victorian Artful Dodger look and try to do that a bit as well. I also see my Northern English Granny a fair bit.

When I grow up I would like to be a curator in mixed-race history. I love history and I feel we don't talk enough about mixed-race history and its relationship to Britain. I'd like to know more about Hakka Chinese. I don't know enough about it myself. I like that I have three cultures, I like having more than one. I can pick the best of all of them.

I haven’t been bullied exactly, but I've had rude comments and some odd comments too. It made me feel angry and I have sometimes lost my temper in these situations.

I have seen people who look like me on TV, but this is rare and that's why I love @mixedracefaces. I'm really pleased it exists and that you reflect the full range of mixed-race people.
